OUR HISTORY

Community Presbyterian Church has been a beacon of faith, hope, and love in Hampton since 1960.

Rooted in the Reformed tradition of the Presbyterian Church (USA), our congregation has remained committed to worship, outreach, and spiritual growth since its founding.

The church was founded in the spirit of unity and service, formed by a group of dedicated believers who met at a Masonic Building in Newport News in 1957 and became part of the Norfolk Presbytery (now known as the Presbytery of Eastern Virginia) in 1958. The group purchased six acres of land at the corner of Fox Hill Road and Woodland Road and dedicated the present building on January 17, 1960.

Over the decades, the church expanded both its facilities and ministries. The church continued to grow and in March of 1966, the educational wing and fellowship hall was built. From Sunday worship and Bible studies to mission outreach and youth programs, Community Presbyterian Church has always focused on serving both its members and the broader Hampton community. The church has supported local and global missions, partnered with schools and food banks, and hosted events to bring people together in fellowship and community. With that goal in mind, a new commercial kitchen was added in 2007.

Pastor Charles and Melissa have been with us since 2023.

In 1993, the church and community were blessed with the opening of Community Presbyterian Preschool. The church saw the need to reach out to young families in the Fox Hill community and did so, by opening the doors for the first time on September 7, 1993. What began with two small classes that fall has grown to serve almost 100 preschoolers each year. Pastor Charles Tucker and his wife Melissa have served with us since 2023. Today, Community Presbyterian is a welcoming congregation, reflecting the rich heritage of the Hampton community. While honoring our past, we look forward with hope and faith.
